Amid the growing threat posed by Omicron and a sudden increase in Covid -19 cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday banned any type of New Year’s celebration program in any closed or open space in Mumbai.

“I, Dr IS Chahal, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, hereby order that no New Year celebratory program / function / gathering / party / activity or performing in closed or open space will be permitted within municipal boundaries of Greater Mumbai. »Read the decree issued by the municipal commissioner on Friday. The decree will come into force on December 25 at midnight.

Earlier on Friday, the Maharashtra government imposed new restrictions, including prohibition orders prohibiting the gathering of people in groups of more than five from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in public places.

In another BMC missive, all international passengers arriving from Dubai who reside in Mumbai are required to undergo a 7-day home quarantine, RT-PCR on day 7; International arrivals residing in other parts of Maharashtra are not allowed to take public transport, vehicles will be provided.
