LAS CRUCES – New Year’s Eve has a chance of rain, so residents of Las Cruces may want to avoid outdoor festivities if they aim to stay dry.

The National Weather Service predicts an 80% chance of showers during the day on Friday, December 31. Tonight, as the region prepares to ring in the New Year, the NWS is forecasting partly cloudy skies and a 40% chance of rain.

Friday will see a high of nearly 52 degrees Fahrenheit with a low of around 37 degrees.

Downtown Las Cruces’ annual New Year’s partnership program, Chile Drop, is taking place downtown in Plaza de Las Cruces to celebrate the arrival of 2022, after being held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 last year. The outdoor event begins at 9 p.m. on December 31 and features food, drink, live music, and games.

New Year’s Day could brighten up a bit, as the NWS is forecasting sunny skies, but it also predicts a 50% chance of rain showers during the day. The high on Saturday is expected to be around 49 degrees.

Saturday night should be clear with no mention of potential rain, according to the NWS. Las Cruces should see a minimum of 22 degrees.

The NWS shows no rain showers in its Sunday forecast. Sunny weather is forecast with a daytime high of 48 degrees and a nighttime low of 25 degrees.
