Celebrate the New Year with Hugh Bonneville as he hosts the annual PBS show from the Musikverein in Austria. Premiers Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings). The show will be available to stream the following day on and the PBS Video app.


As the world welcomes a new decade, Great performance continues the tradition of ringing in the New Year with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the famous Vienna Musikverein. Under the baton of the three-time GRAMMY Award-winning guest conductor and Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra andris nelson, the concert highlights the talent of the Vienna State Ballet and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with beloved Strauss waltzes and more. Preferred PBS Hugh Bonneville (Masterpiece: Downton Abbey) returns as host for a third year, visiting the Musikverein Archive, which holds the largest collection of Beethoven manuscripts in the world, the Beethoven Museum and other venues associated with the legendary composer in honor of his 250e birthday (December 17, 2020).

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs about 40 concerts in Vienna every year, including the New Year’s Concert and the Summer Night Schönbrunn Concert, which are broadcast in many countries around the world.
