The 24-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, has since posted bail and has been released from a Broward County jail, court records show.

It is not known what led to Kapri’s arrest on New Years Day. CNN has contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the arresting agency, for more details, but has not yet. had an answer.

CNN has also reached out to Kapri’s rep for comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Kapri – who grew up in Pompano Beach and whose hit “Tunnel Vision” became his first song in the top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart – has been arrested on several occasions on gun and drug charges. He was indicted by a grand jury in South Carolina in 2016 on charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct.

In November 2019, Black was sentenced to more than three years in prison for firearms after pleading guilty to knowingly making false written statements while attempting to acquire firearms from a gun dealer in fire approved by the federal government.
In April 2019, he was arrested on separate gun and drug charges near Niagara Falls, New York, while attempting to enter the United States from Canada. Kapri has faced allegations of criminal possession of a second degree weapon and illegal possession of marijuana.
Kapri and three others were arrested by United States Customs and Border Protection before being arrested by police. Kapri was arraigned in Lewiston town court and remanded in Niagara County Jail on $ 20,000 / $ 40,000 cash bond. He posted bail just a day after his arrest and was seen in a video walking to a parking lot, apparently shielding his face with a fan of money, CNN affiliate WKBW reported.
But in January 2021, former President Donald Trump commuted the rapper’s gun sentence on his last day in office after serving just under half of his sentence, CNN reported.
