SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A New Years celebration on a river here became tragic when one of four friends who went out to a swimming party drowned.

The drowned man was identified as Allan Fajardo Ventura, 49, a resident of Luna village.

Fajardo was found floating face down in the river near the beach in the village of San Miguel around 3:30 p.m.

According to Démosthène de Jesus, head of the municipal office for disaster risk reduction and management (MDRRMO), Ventura had been drinking before swimming and slipping in a deep part of the river.

An excavation in the area created gaping holes in parts of the river.

Ventura’s body was collected at 4:15 p.m.
