After experiencing one of the hottest Decembers on record, New Years weekend in San Antonio will welcome not only a new year, but our first freeze of the season.

However, the last moments of the year – and your New Year celebrations – will still be hot.

Friday, Dec. 31 will begin with a patchy drizzle before 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. After clearing, the rest of the day will become gradually sunny, with highs near 81. Friday evening will be mostly cloudy, with lows around 66.

The first day of 2022 is expected to be sunny with highs near 85. Winds of 5 to 10 miles per hour will arrive in the afternoon. In some areas, winds can blow up to 20 miles per hour with the cold front. Saturday evening saw temperatures as low as 36 degrees, with winds of 5 to 10 miles per hour and gusts of up to 25 miles per hour after midnight.

On Sunday, the second day of the month, skies will be sunny with high temperatures reaching 55. Winds from the north can reach up to 25 miles per hour. Sunday night will usher in the first freeze of the season in San Antonio, with temperatures dropping to 29.

Cold weather will persist through Monday, with highs of 59 and sunny skies.
