SUMMIT, NJ — A Chinese New Year celebration will be held in downtown Summit on March 20, featuring live music, a Kungfu performance, dancing, and more festivities.
Hosted by the Summit Chinese American Association, the annual gathering is open to anyone from Summit and surrounding towns. The celebration will take place on Sunday, March 20 from 1-3 p.m. at Park & Shop Lot #1 at the corner of Deforest and Woodland Ave.
Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, fell on February 2 this year, marking the Year of the Tiger. It is usually a 15-day celebration in Chinese communities around the world that begins with the new moon.
This year, the Summit event will take place outdoors with live music. The event will include a Chinese Kungfu show, a lion dance and a dragon dance show.
Members of the Sino-American Summit Association will also demonstrate traditional Chinese sports and arts, including shuttlecock, yo-yo, ribbon dance, tai chi, diabolo, spinning top and manufacture of clay figurines.
The predicted rain date for the event is March 27.
