Did you know that waste volumes increase by around 30% during the holiday season?

During this busy time, Ballina Shire Council garbage trucks are very busy picking up trash as usual while also handling increased volumes of trash. This forces drivers to unload more frequently before resuming collection routes.

“There is no change in bin collection days over the Christmas period, even if bin collection falls on a statutory holiday,” said Lloyd Isaacson, director of resource recovery for the Council.

“However, as it is a very busy time, the bins can be picked up a little later in the day. We ask residents to wait until 3pm on the usual collection day before calling council as the driver is likely to be on the way.

The waste management center and the recovery hangar will close on the following dates:

  • From Saturday 25 December to Tuesday 28 December 2021
  • Saturday, January 1, 2022
  • Monday, January 3, 2022

“We will be open as usual from 8 am to 4 pm on the days between Christmas and New Years from December 29 to December 31,” Isaacson said.

“Due to the high volume of waste generated during the holidays and since we are closed on Christmas and Boxing Day holidays, residents should expect delays at the waste management center on December 29th.

“We really appreciate the patience and understanding of the community during this time. If your visit is not urgent, we urge residents to delay it until New Years.
