New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday in 2022, so naturally the mimosas will flow. Here’s where to start the new year on a tasty note.

New Orleans-born chef David Gaus serves up Southern New Year’s delicacies like black-eyed peas, considered a lucky food, served ladled over long-grain rice and a side of bacon. Brunch drinks will be discounted all day, with $5 mimosas and $7 Bloody Marys and espresso cocktails. All-day brunch runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Gina Chersevani’s Union Market and Capitol Hill locations will toast the New Year and honor National Bloody Mary Day with the Lox’d & Loaded, a bloody topped mini everything bagel. Get food in your stomach with homemade knish and a variety of bagel sandwiches. Brunch is served from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Chef Andrew Markert’s Capitol Hill Tavern serves a hangover brunch from noon to 4 p.m. with plenty of comfort food like cinnamon rolls, chicken and waffles, and Benedicts. Of course, there will be brunch cocktails and bottomless mimosas ($20 for two hours). Reservations are recommended.
203 Strand Street, Alexandria
The Old Town spot serves up American fare on its newly opened patio and balcony on New Year’s Day. Enjoy breakfast favorites like a bacon and cheese sandwich or French toast from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. h 30.

Still feeling festive after the holidays? The cluster of local restaurants, including The Hamilton, Old Ebbitt Grill and all seven Clyde locations, will serve brunch in their decorative dining rooms.

Feast on huevos divorciados, enchiladas and Latin-style French toast at this new La Cosecha restaurant. Pair drinks with your meal, such as Hot Buttered Rum or Rompope, Mexican-style nog.

All Founding Farmers locations serve brunch until 2:00 p.m. on New Years Eve and New Years Day. If you’re in the mood for a homebody, they also offer take-out brunch packages with bottles of bubbles. Both Farmers & Distillers and Farmers & Bakers host weekend brunch buffets.

Ven’s restaurant offers a $55 brunch from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Check out the build-your-own toast spread and order brunch favorites like bacon, scrambled eggs, quiches, fried chicken and mini waffles, overnight oats, and more. All restaurants in the hotel company’s DC area are open for brunch. There’s a new $25.99 bottomless brunch at Dupont Circle Mexican spot Mi Casa. Enjoy Southern comfort food at Succotash Prime. Or try French-inspired dishes at the new Wharf Bistro Du Jour restaurant.

The Presidential Restaurant hosts a Generations-themed brunch where you can try new menus of all-you-can-eat dishes and cocktails. Priced at $50 per person, the feast includes small plates, a waffle and omelette station, as well as Bloody Marys, mimosas and bellinis. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1337 11th Street, NW
Shaw’s seasonal restaurant is offering a four-course home meal kit for $100 per person. Dine on chicken ballotine, Waldorf salad, seafood lasagnettes, bacon-wrapped leg of venison and poached pears. The package also includes a bunch of snacks, like pork and oyster moneybags, rabbit skewers, and celeriac cannoli with caviar. Pickup is available from noon to 5 p.m. on December 30 and 31.

Both locations of these seafood-focused restaurants serve their classic brunch menus, as well as new chef specials. Caviar, lobster pie, bucatini and steak will be added to the Navy Yard menu, and you can try burrata toast, king crab ravioli and roast duck breast at the new Ballston location.

Navy Yard’s upscale New American Restaurant serves a special New Year’s Day brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The three-course brunch menu ($35 per person) typically includes options like deviled eggs , buttermilk fried chicken and apple fritters. Add carafes of mimosas for $25.

Stay in your pajamas while feasting on take-out food from popular restaurants. The $50 “brunch at home” package includes scrambled eggs, home fries, two meats of your choice, pancakes or French toast, and four homemade pop-tarts.
