Soap opera fans who look forward to the usual New Year’s drama episodes of their favorite shows might be disappointed this year.
Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders all aired “dropped” episodes on New Year’s Day this year, according to the latest TV listings, though it’s often one of their biggest episodes.
The ITV and BBC Christmas TV programs have been revealed, causing a huge upheaval for soap operas.
Whether it’s shows airing on weekends or airing on days they normally wouldn’t, or not airing in their usual time slots, everything changes for the holiday season, as it is often the case at this time of year.
But no soap opera will air on New Year’s Day this year, with hour-long episodes airing on New Year’s Eve instead.
Indeed, in 2022, New Year’s Day, January 1, falls on a Saturday.
Of course, soap operas never air on Saturdays, which is why we won’t have a dramatic New Year’s opening this time around.
EastEnders is known for its huge January 1st episodes, deaths, shocking twists, and all kinds of airing.
But like Emmerdale and Corrie, it also won’t feature an installment that day, as it’s a weekend, when soap operas don’t or rarely air.
That said, the previous Saturday will see all three soap operas change and air huge episodes.
Of course, that’s because it’s Christmas Day, and they couldn’t miss it even though it was a Saturday!
But fear not, viewers, you won’t miss any Dales, Weatherfield or Walford action without the New Year’s episode.
There will be plenty more action and longer episodes before that day, and after that too, as huge storylines unfold for fans to enjoy.
On Christmas Eve Emmerdale is on ITV at 7pm, followed by Corrie at 8.30pm, and on Christmas Day there is an hour-long episode of Emmerdale at 7pm followed by an hour of Corrie at 8pm.
Boxing Day sees Emmerdale at 7 p.m. and Corrie at 7.30 p.m., while it is the following days that see a shake-up with Corrie at 9 p.m. for an hour on December 27 and 28 – while Emmerdale remains in its usual 7 p.m. slot. h. .
